 Boy Scouts Collect Shoes for Katrina Victims      (Charity)
Ongoing Event, Ends 10/31/2005

Boy Scouts of Troop 874 from Pine Valley Middle School in San Ramon are working together with local Cub Scouts, family, friends, businesses and neighbors to collect 1,000 pairs of new and slightly worn shoes for the victims of Hurricane Katrina through October 31st. Drop off centers are at Walt Disney Elementary, Country Club Elementary, Pine Valley Middle School, and California High School. The scouts will collect used (but serviceable) or new shoes, boots, hiking boots, sports shoes, waders, sandals, etc., sanitize them if used, and deliver them where they will do the most good--via Red Cross, Salvation Army, or church efforts.  “Sneak Peak” at the CA Independent Film Fest      (Community)
Four filmmakers present a “sneak peek” at two of the films featured at this year’s California Independent Film Festival at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center’s Community Rooms on Wednesday, October 12th at 7 pm. The California Independent Film Festival takes place October 26th thru 30th at various venues in the scenic Livermore Valley wine country. Producer Nathan Trebes and Director Phil Grasso present the short film Dark Destinies which poses the question “What happens when jealousy comes between two Jedi?” Also appearing will be Tin Town, a captivating short film of wind-up tin toys in action, set to the whimisical music of composer Raymond Scott, produced by Sarah Wasley-Smith and directed by Rachel Smith.  Free Child Care Workshop  6:30-7:30pm    (Family)
Child Care Links presents a workshop titled "Choosing Child Care" - an opportunity for parents to explore their child care options. Confused about the different types of care? Concerned about quality? Wondering what to expect as far as cost and services? This workshop will assist parents in selecting the best child care option for their family. Lecture, resources, handouts and a question and answer period are included. Babies are welcome. The workshop will be held at Child Care Links, 1020 Serpentine Lane, Suite 104 in Pleasanton.  Fire Stations Open House      (Health and Safety)
Fire Prevention Week is October 9-15. The Community is invited to an Open House event hosted by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Departments. All Livermore-Pleasanton fire stations will have an open house. All public is welcome to visit any LPFD fire station from 6-8 pm for tours and to see life inside the fire station. Fire Stations will be giving away reflective Halloween Trick or Treat Bags! For more information please contact the Fire Prevention Dept. at 925-454-2362.
